For some wired reasons I woke up this morning with the Nigerian National Anthem and Pledge on my mind.
I had to recite them several times within me and got into deep thoughts as I did that.
I pledge to Nigeria my country
To be faithful, loyal and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory
So help me God.
The Nigerian pledge, struck me. I remember that we are meant to recite it everyday in primary and secondary school. Up until this morning, I had never paid attention to the meaning of the pledge and its implications.
The pledge also made me think about all the current issues in the Nigeria and I couldn't help but wonder if our leaders today have ever taken time to look at and understand the pledge they made in service to the great country Nigeria.
Today is the presidential and parliamentary elections in Nigeria, the question prime on my mind is "Will whoever that is elected as President uphold the Nigerian Pledge?"
