Fire outbreak at a tenament flat in Dennistoun Glasgow

There's been a fire on the building where I live and my whole flat including two more on the last floor are totally burnt down. 8 of us were rescued with a cherry picker including my two children.

I woke up around 1.45am on Sunday hearing noises and had a look out of the window. I saw the fire service, policemen and ambulances. I thought, 'What is going on here?’ I thought maybe somebody was sick or people were fighting outside.

I opened the door to go outside and the fire came into my flat. Less than ten minutes after the firefighter took us down the fire had engulfed the flat and I was watching it burn down. The speed and intensity of the fire was incredible.

It was so traumatic. I thought it was the end for us. The blaze occurred at 1.25am on Sunday in the roofspace of the block at the corner of Hillfoot Street and Roslea Drive. More than 40 firefighters raced to the scene and evacuated 33 residents from their homes before dousing the flames.

My home was completely destroyed by the fire but I am so glad to be alive and healthy along with my two children.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire and has called on anyone with useful information to contact them.
