A teenager hanged himself after racking up a bill of hundreds of poundson computer games, an inquest heard.
Henry Tattersall was told he would not get any Christmas presents when he mistakenly downloaded Xbox games worth £420 last November.
Just minutes before hanging himself, the 13-year-old spoke to his girlfriend on Facebook and said: ‘I’m going to kill myself.’
His mother, Eve, from Newchurch, Lancashire, told the inquest her son was ‘genuinely stunned’ by the amount of money he had spent.
‘He was very upset that I was upset,’ she said.
Coroner Richard Taylor, sitting in Burnley, said Henry’s death was the ‘unexpected conclusion of an intended action’, with a verdict of death by misadventure recorded.
My thoughts
This is very disheartening. It is actually tearing my heart apart. What a loss of a young soul. For a 13 year old, £420 is an awful lot of money but not worth him taking his life. Parents need to add parental control to avoid misfortunes like this one. For further info heres a guide on how to add parental controls to the xbox.
