A few days ago, I found out that I could not access my Facebook messages on my phone. Every time I click on message , there is a pop up from Facebook asking me to download the new messenger app. I initially ignored it thinking it was a bluff and that after some days I could access my messages without downloading Facebook messenger as I couldn't be bothered with it and didn't want to have a messenger App when I can access my messages on the main Facebook app.
A few days passed and I realised that Facebook now force everyone to download the messenger app which has been updated with new features. Without having the messenger App, people using Facebook on their mobile. Phone can no longer read or send messages. Strange!
With the new messenger App, one can make video calls to contacts via Facebook which is an added feature. However, what is the problem with the new app?
Facebook is forcing all smartphone users to install the new messaging app. This app allows Facebook to access users phone camera and record audio, call and send messages without your permission, identify details about users and all their contacts, and can send that information to third parties.
If you want to carry on sending and receiving messages through Facebook on your mobile phone you now have no choice but to install Facebook Messenger and give the company access to a wealth of personal data stored on your phone.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has also admitted that his long-term plan could be to 'monetize' the app.
I honestly think that Facebook should not force users to install a messenger app. Facebook users should be allowed to access messages from the main Facebook app.
